Seplat Energy Plc, a key player in Nigeria’s energy sector, has received the CSR Award for Education Empowerment from the Social Impact & Sustainability Awards (SISA), organized by CSR Reporters. This prestigious award recognizes Seplat’s impactful contributions to Nigeria’s educational landscape.

CSR Reporters, Africa’s leading CSR and sustainability publication, honors initiatives that bolster sustainable economies and serve the public. SISA, now in its fourth year, celebrates transformative impacts on society.

Dr. Eustace Onuegbu, a luminary in sustainability, notes the importance of integrating global standards, including ISO 37101 and ISO 26000, in such initiatives. Seplat’s adherence to these standards and its support for the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals underscore its commitment to responsible practices.

Seplat’s CSR endeavors, like the Seplat Pearl’s Quiz and National Undergraduate Scholarship, have profoundly impacted Nigerian education. The quiz, running since 2012, has reached over 57,875 teachers and students, with N8.1 million in scholarships awarded. Additionally, Seplat has significantly upgraded school infrastructure, contributing N101 million in prize money.

The National Undergraduate Scholarship, since 2014, has supported 780 students, with a significant focus on host communities. The SEPLAT Teachers Empowerment Programme (STEP), initiated in 2020, has equipped 905 teachers with digital skills and leadership training, positively affecting over 10,000 students.

The Seplat Innovators Programme further exemplifies the company’s commitment to STEAM education, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

At the awards ceremony, Chioma Afe, Director of External Affairs and Social Performance at Seplat, represented by CSR Manager Esther Icha, expressed gratitude for the recognition. She emphasized Seplat’s dedication to global best practices and social development in Nigerian communities.

Seplat Energy’s educational initiatives reflect its corporate strategy principles: accountability, transparency, ethical behavior, respect for stakeholder interests, law adherence, international norms, and human rights respect.

The Seplat team, including Stanley Opara, Charles Ifediba, and Josephine Kola-Ajibade, also attended the event, demonstrating the company’s united front in championing educational CSR.

Seplat Energy’s achievement in winning the SISA CSR Award for Education Empowerment is a testament to its unwavering commitment to educational excellence and community development in Nigeria.
