At Nigeria’s largest manufacturing equipment and raw material expo in Lagos, organised by the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Shell Nigeria Gas Limited’s (SNG) Managing Director, Ralph Gbobo, pledged the company’s ongoing collaboration with industry stakeholders and the government. This partnership aims to address the challenges facing the industry, particularly in domestic gas supply.
Gbobo reiterated SNG’s dedication to providing manufacturing and industrial customers with clean, reliable, and cost-effective alternatives to liquid fuel, contributing to the strengthening of the Nigerian economy.
“By implementing initiatives like enforcing discipline and transparency in the gas transportation network and upholding contractual terms across the gas value chain, we can lay a solid foundation for future solutions,” Gbobo explained. These solutions, he noted, include upgrading existing transportation infrastructure, completing essential gas pipelines, promoting a willing-buyer/willing-seller marketplace, setting globally competitive gas fiscals, and enhancing regulator efficiency.
According to a report by The Guardian, Gbobo highlighted several challenges in Nigeria’s domestic gas market, such as limited processing and transportation infrastructure, inadequate measurement and control systems, and non-implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and Network Code. He also pointed out issues like the lack of transparency in gas injections and off-takes, as well as the non-enforcement of gas system balancing.
These insights into Nigeria’s gas market underscore the need for a multi-faceted approach to address the current challenges and ensure a steady and sustainable gas supply for the manufacturing sector. SNG’s commitment at this pivotal expo reflects a significant step towards achieving this goal.
