Mdluli Safari Lodge Teams Up with Sosimple Energy to Lead the Charge in Eco-Friendly Hospitality

Tourists seeking an authentic safari experience in South Africa’s renowned Kruger National Park will soon enjoy a sustainable twist, thanks to the Mdluli Safari Lodge’s adoption of clean energy solutions. Spearheaded by Sosimple Energy, the lodge is embracing solar power paired with energy storage, promising visitors an eco-friendly getaway amidst the wilderness.

Under the careful guidance of Sosimple Energy, the luxury tented lodge is undergoing a green transformation with the installation of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system coupled with a battery energy storage system (BESS). Upon completion, the project will boast a 114kWp ground-mount solar PV system complemented by a 456kWh high-voltage BESS solution.

Chris Schalkwyk, the executive manager of Mdluli Safari Lodge, emphasized the lodge’s commitment to sustainability within the pristine surroundings of Kruger National Park. He explained that the adoption of solar PV and battery backup from Sosimple Energy aligns seamlessly with their ethos of responsible development and operation in the conservation area. Schalkwyk highlighted the combined solution’s potential to reduce the lodge’s carbon footprint, minimize diesel and electricity expenses, mitigate the impact of power outages, and ensure eco-sensitive tourism operations.

As an expert in short-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) and rent-to-own energy solutions, Sosimple Energy stands at the forefront of environmental sustainability and innovative energy solutions. Lizet Bloo, the managing director of Sosimple Energy, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Mdluli Safari Lodge on this transformative solar and BESS project. Bloo emphasized that integrating renewable energy technologies will not only significantly reduce the lodge’s carbon emissions but also provide a reliable and sustainable power source, thus minimizing the impact of power disruptions on the lodge’s operations.

Mdluli Safari Lodge sets a benchmark for sustainable tourism initiatives, proudly fostering a partnership with the local Mdluli community. It stands as the only lodge in South Africa to receive an AA+ESG (environmental, social, and governance) rating. Liana Braxton, Sosimple Energy’s head of sales, commended the lodge’s commitment to sustainability and expressed optimism about the project’s broader community impact. Braxton highlighted how Sosimple Energy’s tailored sustainable energy solutions empower businesses like Mdluli Safari Lodge to take control of their energy needs while positively impacting the environment.
