Angola’s ASSEA Partners with AOG 2024 to Boost Oil Industry

Collaboration Aims to Enhance Local Content and Foster Global Partnerships

Angola is set to witness significant growth in its oil and gas sector over the next five years. Several large-scale projects, including the CLOV Phase 2 project in Block 17, Cabinda oil refinery, Agogo Integrated West Hub Development, Quiluma and Maboqueiro fields, and Kaminho Deepwater Development in Block 20/11, are on track for development. A 2025 limited tender will kick off exploration and development at offshore, onshore, and marginal fields. This surge in projects will drive demand for oilfield services, equipment, and engineering solutions, fueling sustainable development through hydrocarbon production and resource monetization.

The Associação de Empresas Autóctones para a Indústria Petrolífera de Angola (ASSEA) has partnered with the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) conference for its 2024 edition, scheduled to take place in Luanda from October 2-3. This partnership aims to enhance the participation and contribution of Angolan institutions in the oil and gas industry and will foster collaboration between global project developers and local firms.

AOG is Angola’s premier oil and gas event, enjoying full support from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Sonangol, the National Oil, Gas, and Biofuels Agency, the African Energy Chamber, and the Petroleum Derivatives Regulatory Institute. The conference provides a platform for deal-making and advancing Angola’s oil and gas industry.

Angola plans to maintain oil production above one million barrels per day until 2027 while increasing the share of natural gas in its energy mix. The government is promoting exploration in frontier basins and implementing an incremental production initiative to attract reinvestment in existing fields. These efforts unlock new business opportunities for Angolan service providers, aligning with the country’s local content policies that prioritize the participation of local entities.

The Angolanization initiative, a key driver of local content, grants local service providers preference in oil and gas contracts. ASSEA plays a crucial role in facilitating engagement between companies and improving market access for firms across the industry. By connecting foreign project developers with Angolan service and equipment companies, ASSEA serves as a bridge, fostering international collaboration.

Capacity building and skill development are also top priorities for ASSEA. In partnership with Muhatu Energy Angola, a network for women in the oil and gas industry, ASSEA launched the Ubuntu program in November 2023. This professional internship program offers students in their final year of technical-professional courses the opportunity to gain real-life experience in work environments, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in the Angolan oil and gas sector.

As an AOG 2024 partner, ASSEA will facilitate discussions among industry stakeholders, showcasing the expertise and technology of Angolan-based service providers. AOG 2024, the largest international oil and gas platform in Angola, will welcome delegations from China, the USA, the UAE, Portugal, Switzerland, and more. This conference, combined with strong local participation and international reach, creates new opportunities for partnerships, deal signings, and networking.

Energy Capital & Power, Africa’s leading investment platform for the energy sector, will continue to unite the entire energy value chain through events, online content, and investment reports. By fostering global and intra-African investment and collaboration, Energy Capital & Power supports the continent’s energy sector growth.

Angola’s oil and gas sector is poised for growth with several large-scale projects on the horizon. ASSEA’s partnership with AOG 2024 aims to support local content and foster international collaboration, driving sustainable development in the industry. The event will serve as a key platform for networking, deal-making, and advancing Angola’s energy goals.
