KEY POINTS
- Bidders must design and deliver PV luminaires.
- The project will install solar streetlights citywide.
- Seven PV streetlight types are needed for roadways.
In order to improve road safety and the advancement of public lighting infrastructure, streetlight luminaires are crucial for lighting public roads. To address the expanding infrastructure requirements of the City of Tshwane, the new photovoltaic (PV) streetlight luminaires will provide an off-grid option.
Tender for solar streetlight installation begins
Appointing service providers to design, produce, deliver, and unload photovoltaic streetlight luminaires that exceed SANS requirements and the City’s criteria is the aim of this tender. The city will install these luminaires along a number of its roads.
Every photovoltaic streetlight fixture will be made for a distinct kind of road and needs to have a few essential parts, such as:
- A solar panel and an energy-storage container
- Equipment for solar control; an LED (light-emitting diode) light
- Brackets and accessories for mounting
In order to ensure that each unit is customised to the unique carriageways around the City of Tshwane, the winning bidder will be in charge of developing, supplying, and delivering these PV luminaires. Split-type luminaires with solar panels, energy storage enclosures, and control equipment to run the LED lights are required.
The service provider is responsible for transporting all equipment to the City of Tshwane in addition to providing the materials. In order to satisfy industry standards and the City’s requirements, the chosen bidder or bidders will also have to install, test, and demonstrate the solar-powered streetlights. The City will provide reinforced concrete monopoles to mount the luminaires.
Seven PV luminaire types for different roadways
According to ESI Africa, seven different kinds of PV streetlight luminaires are needed for this project, and the specifications encompass the design criteria for different road categories, lane counts, and mounting options. Either a single outreach or a median mounting system will be used to adapt these luminaires to particular road designs.
In addition to printed copies, bidders are required to send electronic versions of their offers on a USB flash drive or memory stick to the following address: Tshwane House, 320 Madiba Street, Pretoria Central Business District, 0002.
