The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has announced the arrival of two vessels carrying 40,766,400 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, at Tincan Island Ports in Lagos State on Friday. This delivery is part of Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to ensure the steady supply of petroleum products amid fluctuating fuel prices and rising demand.
According to the NPA’s “Daily Shipping Position,” sighted by The Punch on Friday, the vessels docked alongside others carrying various commodities, marking a crucial addition to the nation’s fuel reserves.
More vessels with vehicles and commodities expected in Lagos
In addition to the fuel shipment, the NPA disclosed that 10 more vessels are expected to arrive at the ports between November 1 and November 8, 2024. These vessels will carry a range of commodities, including used vehicles and bulk goods. Specifically, three vessels will arrive with 600 units of used vehicles and 600 units of new vehicles.
The remaining vessels are set to deliver various products, such as AGO (diesel), containers, and bulk wheat, reflecting the diversity of cargo that passes through Nigerian ports regularly.
Ports ready to accommodate incoming cargo vessels
The NPA confirmed that the nine incoming vessels will berth at key port terminals, including Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, Five Star Logistics, Ports & Terminal Multipurpose Limited, Josepdam Ports Service Limited, and Tincan Island Container Terminal, all in Lagos State. These terminals are equipped to handle a wide array of goods, ensuring smooth offloading and distribution.
This development is part of a broader effort to support Nigeria’s import demands, spanning from fuel to essential goods, while facilitating the entry of vehicles into the domestic market.
