Petralon Energy, an independent African oil and gas company, has appointed Philip Clarke as its new Technical Director. With over 35 years of experience in the upstream industry, Clarke will lead the company’s technical operations, helping to drive Petralon’s strategic vision of achieving operational excellence and growth in Africa’s energy sector.

Clarke’s extensive career includes a 20-year tenure with BP, where he contributed to major international development and exploration projects. Petralon Energy praised Clarke’s leadership skills and technical expertise, noting his contributions to shaping strategic business operations and business development in various global regions. His vast experience in technical and managerial roles positions him to support Petralon’s ambitious growth plans.

Clarke’s extensive background strengthens Petralon’s leadership team

Clarke has also led his consultancy firms, Novas Consulting Ltd and Santa Clara Energy Ltd, offering technical and strategic insights to diverse upstream clients. Additionally, he is a Chartered Geologist and a Fellow of the Geological Society, further solidifying his credentials.

Clarke’s most recent role before joining Petralon was Head of Mergers & Acquisitions and New Ventures at Petrobras Oil & Gas B.V. from 2015 to 2020. During his tenure, he managed the divestment of a 50% stake and oversaw new ventures, along with non-operated interests in three deepwater fields in Nigeria.

Petralon’s CEO, Ahonsi Unuigbe, expressed enthusiasm for Clarke’s appointment. “Philip’s expertise and leadership align perfectly with our 2030 corporate goals, including a projected 600% growth in production,” Unuigbe said. “We are confident his experience will add tremendous value to our organization.”

Having provided advisory services to Petralon over the past year, Clarke has already made an impact, according to Unuigbe. Now, as Technical Director, Clarke aims to focus on technical delivery across Petralon’s assets. “My goal is to ensure excellence in technical operations, from managing our current assets to exploring and developing new opportunities in line with Petralon’s growth strategy,” Clarke stated.

With Clarke’s extensive industry knowledge and strategic vision, Petralon is well-positioned to continue its growth trajectory in the African energy landscape, emphasizing both value creation and operational integrity.
