  • Sanha-Lean Gas Connection set for Q4 2024 production.
  • Expanded pipeline links Blocks 0 and 14 to Angola LNG.

Chevron is on track to deliver 600 million standard cubic feet of gas per day to the Angola LNG (ALNG) facility by the end of 2024, underscoring its commitment to energy expansion in southern Africa.

The boost follows advancements on Chevron’s Sanha-Lean Gas Connection (SLGC) Project, managed by Chevron’s local subsidiary in Angola.

Lean gas transport to ALNG facility begins Q4 2024

The initiative, designed to transport lean gas to the ALNG onshore facility, is set to commence production in the fourth quarter of 2024. Over the next five years, up to $60 billion is expected to be invested across Angola’s oil and gas industry as international oil companies, independent E&P firms, and juniors seize new opportunities in onshore, offshore, and marginal fields.

Billy Lacobie, Managing Director of Chevron’s Southern Africa Strategic Business Unit, shared this update during an “In Conversation with” session at the Angola Oil & Gas conference in Luanda on Wednesday.

“The potential in gas is both vast and exhilarating as we look ahead,” Lacobie stated. “In the conversation on energy security, gas emerges as one of the core solutions.”

Boosting Angola’s LNG via SLGC-Sanha pipeline connection

The Angola Liquefied Natural Gas (ALNG) Project, operated by Angola LNG Limited in Soyo, stands as Angola’s first and one of Africa’s largest LNG ventures. ALNG processes and commercializes associated natural gas produced by Chevron and other oil operators, reinforcing Angola’s position in the energy sector.

The increased gas production will be enabled by connecting the SLGC Project to the existing Sanha Condensate Complex.

This includes an infrastructure network of pipelines that integrate Chevron-operated Blocks 0 and 14 with the ALNG plant, bolstering Angola’s LNG supply and contributing to the region’s energy landscape.
