KEY POINTS

  • Angola’s premier oil and gas conference has opened nominations for its 2025 awards, honouring innovation, exploration success, local content champions and lifetime industry contributions.
  • Four categories will spotlight disruptive strategies, major discoveries, home-grown business excellence and long-term leadership.
  • The gala, backed by Angola’s energy ministry and Sonangol, will convene global industry leaders, policymakers and investors in Luanda later this year.

Nominations for Angola’s premier oil and gas event, AOG, which aims to highlight the businesses, people, and innovations influencing the nation’s most significant economic sector, have officially opened for the annual awards.

To be given out at a high-profile gala in 2025, the Angola Oil & Gas, AOG, Awards will honor accomplishments ranging from innovative technology deployments to game-changing exploration campaigns and local content champions.

The honours are intended for more than just celebration, according to the organizers. Additionally, they are a conscious effort to encourage new players in the market, boost investor confidence, and enhance Angola’s standing as a competitive African hydrocarbon hub.

“The awards create a unique platform to tell our success stories, promote leadership and encourage the next generation of oil and gas professionals,” said a statement from Energy Capital & Power, which runs the event with backing from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Sonangol and the African Energy Chamber.

Four awards, one vision for the industry’s future

This year’s programme features four headline categories:

  • Game Changer of the Year will recognise a company redefining the oil and gas value chain through disruptive strategies, technologies or operational models.
  • Explorer of the Year will go to a firm whose recent campaigns have unlocked significant reserves or deployed novel exploration techniques.
  • Local Company of the Year will spotlight an Angolan-owned business that has excelled commercially while contributing to skills development, job creation and sustainable practices.
  • Lifetime Achievement Award will honour an individual or company whose decades of work have left an enduring mark on Angola’s energy sector.

The honors come as Angola attempts to strike a balance between new discoveries, deepwater investments, and natural gas monetization projects and dwindling legacy oilfields. Additionally, they adhere to policy initiatives that enhance local involvement in the value chain, which organizers say will be a major theme of the ceremony this year.

Veterans of the industry point out that in past years, the awards have also served as a networking event, with attendees and winners often leaving with new capital sources and partnership deals. This year’s gala — attended by ministers, CEOs, regulators and global investors — is expected to draw one of the largest crowds in the event’s history.

All businesses and individuals involved in Angola’s oil and gas industry are eligible to submit nominations, and online submissions will be accepted through the end of this year. The AOG 2025 Gala Dinner, which organizers characterize as a celebration and a strategic gathering place for the industry’s future, will reveal the winners.
