KEY POINTS
- NNPCL crude oil output rises from 1.5 million bpd in 2024 to over 1.7 million bpd in 2025
- Gas production surpasses seven billion standard cubic feet per day, with AKK pipeline progressing
- Company targets 1.8 million bpd crude oil production and expanded gas supply in 2026
Nigeriaโs National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, reported strong gains in 2025, with crude oil and gas production rising above expectations, officials said.
Group Chief Executive Officer Bayo Ojulari attributed the growth to internal reforms and government support under the Petroleum Industry Act. The companyโs performance was presented to President Bola Tinubu during an end-of-year briefing outlining achievements and strategic goals for 2026.
The company highlighted the advancement of the long-delayed AjaokutaโKadunaโKano gas pipeline, a key project aimed at boosting gas supply to northern Nigeria. Main pipeline welding, including the crossing of the River Niger, has been completed, overcoming years of delays.
Plans for 2026
NNPCL said it aims to further raise oil and gas output next year by attracting fresh investments across its upstream portfolio. The company targets at least 1.8 million barrels per day of crude oil and expanded gas supply, alongside securing new final investment decisions to support infrastructure projects and industrial growth.
President Tinubu commended NNPCLโs management and board, describing the results as a strong start. He urged the company to pursue long-term goals, including attracting more than $30 billion in investment by 2030 and reaching two million barrels per day of crude production by 2027.
Industry analysts note that sustained growth and strategic infrastructure like the AKK pipeline are critical for meeting Nigeriaโs rising energy demands and supporting economic development across the northern corridor.
NNPCL remains focused on leveraging reforms and partnerships to strengthen national energy output while preparing for an ambitious 2026 production year.
