KEY POINTS

  • Tetracore Energy Group has commissioned Ghana’s first Gas Virtual Pipeline Network CNG facility in Tema, a $15 million project aimed at delivering cleaner and cheaper energy.
  • The plant will start at 5.1 MMSCFD capacity and expand to 10 MMSCFD, with major environmental, industrial, and job-creation benefits.
  • The project strengthens Nigeria–Ghana energy cooperation and positions Tetracore as a key regional gas infrastructure player.

Tetracore Energy Group Limited, led by Nigerian energy entrepreneur Dr. Olakunle Williams, has officially commissioned Ghana’s first-ever Gas Virtual Pipeline Network Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) facility, a landmark development expected to reshape the country’s gas distribution landscape and accelerate its transition to cleaner energy.

The $15 million facility, developed through Tetracore Gas Ghana Limited (TGG), was inaugurated at the Tema Industrial Area in a high-profile ceremony attended by Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, represented by the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor.

The event drew senior government officials, energy regulators, industry leaders, financiers, diplomats, community representatives, and members of Tetracore’s board.

The project marks a significant milestone for Ghana’s industrial energy sector, offering an alternative to more expensive and carbon-intensive fuels such as diesel and heavy fuel oil, while also strengthening cross-border energy collaboration between Nigeria and Ghana.

A $15 Million Investment to Deliver Cleaner, Cheaper, and Reliable Gas

The Tema CNG facility has been designed to provide a dependable supply of compressed natural gas to industrial, commercial, and transportation users, including customers located far from existing pipeline infrastructure.

At the heart of the project is a state-of-the-art 5.1 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) CNG Mother Station, supported by a 10 MMSCFD Pressure Regulation and Metering Station (PRMS).

The plant also features advanced compression skids equipped with global-standard safety devices, alongside a dedicated 2.5-kilometre pipeline network built for long-term reliability and operational safety.

Specialized gas-powered trucks will transport compressed gas from the mother station to industrial clusters, factories, and remote customers, effectively creating a “virtual pipeline” that overcomes physical pipeline limitations.

Tetracore disclosed that the facility will be expanded to 10 MMSCFD within the next nine months, in response to strong market demand and Ghana’s growing industrial base.

Beyond improving energy access, the facility is expected to deliver substantial environmental gains. Tetracore estimates carbon savings of about 1,347 metric tonnes of CO₂ per day, a major contribution to Ghana’s climate and emissions-reduction goals.

At full capacity, the plant can refuel up to 30 CNG trucks daily, supporting cleaner transportation and logistics across industrial corridors.
