KEY POINTS
โข $100B committed to renewable powered AI data centers by 2035
โข Target of 5 GW national data center capacity
โข Project could catalyze $250B AI ecosystem in India
Adani Group has announced a $100 billion plan to develop a renewable powered hyperscale AI data center platform across India by 2035.
The company said the initiative aims to build 5 gigawatts of data center capacity and help anchor a domestic AI ecosystem valued at an estimated $250 billion over the next decade.
The expansion builds on AdaniConneXโs existing 2 gigawatt national data center platform. The group plans to scale that capacity while integrating renewable power generation, transmission infrastructure and high density AI computing.
Expanding hyperscale AI capacity
The project will link large scale renewable energy with advanced computing facilities. AI workloads are driving sharp increases in electricity demand worldwide. Power reliability and carbon intensity have become key concerns for operators and investors.
Adani Green Energyโs 30 gigawatt Khavda renewable project in Gujarat will play a central role. More than 10 gigawatts are already operational. The broader group has also earmarked an additional $55 billion to expand its renewable portfolio and battery storage systems.
The company said aligning generation, grid infrastructure and compute capacity will help reduce power bottlenecks that have slowed data center growth in other markets.
Facilities will be designed for advanced AI workloads. Plans include liquid cooling systems and high efficiency power architecture to support dense GPU clusters.
Partnerships with global technology firms
The announcement builds on partnerships with global technology companies. Adani is working with Google to establish a gigawatt scale AI data center campus in Visakhapatnam. Additional facilities are planned in Noida.
A separate partnership with Microsoft covers projects in Hyderabad and Pune. The group also confirmed an expanded collaboration with Flipkart to develop a second AI focused data center for digital commerce and high performance computing.
Strategic cable landing stations at Adani operated ports will support global connectivity. The infrastructure is expected to provide low latency links with major markets in the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia.
Supporting domestic manufacturing and AI ecosystem growth
The initiative is projected to catalyze an additional $150 billion in related investments. These include server manufacturing, advanced electrical equipment, sovereign cloud services and other infrastructure. Combined with Adaniโs commitment, the broader ecosystem impact is estimated at $250 billion.
The group plans to co invest in domestic manufacturing of critical components such as transformers, inverters and advanced power electronics. This approach aims to reduce exposure to global supply chain disruptions.
Dedicated compute capacity will be allocated to Indian large language models, startups and research institutions. The company said this supports data sovereignty and local innovation.
India is positioning itself as both a digital services hub and a manufacturing center for next generation technologies. Demand for AI driven data centers is accelerating globally, raising concerns about grid strain and emissions.
If implemented as planned, the 5-gigawatt platform would be among the largest integrated, renewable-powered data centre deployments worldwide and significantly expand Indiaโs presence in the global AI infrastructure sector.
