- NUPRC signs Petroleum Exploration Licence No. 5 with SeaSeis to advance offshore exploration
- Three-year seismic data project to cover 11,700 square kilometres in Eastern Niger Delta New 3D
- seismic and gravity data expected to guide investment and reduce exploration risks
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, has signed Petroleum Exploration Licence No. 5 with SeaSeis Geophysical Limited to advance offshore exploration activities. The agreement authorises the company, in partnership with the NUPRC and TGS, to acquire and process new 3D seismic and gravity data across offshore areas of the Eastern Niger Delta.
The three-year deal was signed at the NUPRC headquarters in Abuja and is expected to improve subsurface understanding and provide high-quality geological data to guide future exploration and investment decisions.
According to the NUPRC, the initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen upstream activities and unlock additional hydrocarbon resources offshore.
The project will cover approximately 11,700 square kilometres in the offshore Eastern Niger Delta, with water depths ranging from 400 metres to 2,800 metres. The data acquisition and processing exercise is expected to generate detailed subsurface insights that could attract new investors and support licensing rounds in the offshore basin.
The commission noted that the collaboration with SeaSeis Geophysical Limited and TGS will help deliver modern seismic datasets to industry players, improving exploration planning and reducing geological risks. The initiative is also expected to enhance Nigeria’s offshore resource development and strengthen long-term energy investment prospects.
