Petralon Energy, an indigenous oil exploration and production company, has appointed Uduak Equere as Executive Director, effective January 5, 2026, marking a key leadership move after a year of notable operational and commercial progress.

The company said the appointment reflects its transition into a new phase of growth, backed by stronger execution across its asset portfolio, improved financial positioning and reinforced institutional capacity. Over the past year, Petralon advanced several internal milestones that boosted its profile within Nigeria independent oil and gas sector.

Industry observers say the move signals a sharper focus on coordinated growth, capital deployment and long term value creation as competition intensifies across the energy landscape

Expanded role within the Petralon group

Equere will retain his position as Chief Commercial Officer while continuing as an Executive Director of Petralon 54, a subsidiary of Petralon Energy. In his new role, he will also take on broader responsibilities at the group level, overseeing strategic and commercial initiatives.

Company officials described Equere as a steady leader whose work has consistently delivered value across commercial development, corporate finance and operational execution. His elevation, they said, reflects confidence in leadership continuity as the company scales its activities.

Before joining Petralon Energy, Equere built a strong foundation in energy finance and investments across several institutions. He began his career at Vetiva Capital Management as an investment analyst, covering energy sector equities and shaping market views on Nigeria oil, gas and power industries. He was also a regular commentator on CNBC Africa.

He later joined Afren Plc, where he gained hands on experience in deal execution, asset acquisitions and fiscal optimisation across joint venture operations. At Xodus Group Africa, he worked on petroleum economic assessments tied to major upstream projects and Africa wide transactions backed by the Africa Finance Corporation.

Equere is a member of the International Association for Energy Economics and completed the Energy Innovation and Emerging Technologies programme at Stanford University Centre for Professional Development. He also recently completed the Accelerated Development Programme at London Business School.

He holds an MBA in Finance from Imperial College Business School and a degree in Economics from the University of Uyo, where he graduated as the best student in his department.

Beyond company operations, Equere has remained active in industry discussions on energy finance and investment across Africa, with speaking roles at major forums including African Energy Week in Cape Town
