  • The outage is part of routine maintenance to improve electricity reliability, and residents are urged to treat all appliances as live during the disruption.

Eskom has confirmed a planned seven hour power outage that will affect several communities in Tshwane on Thursday, March 5.

The electricity supply will be interrupted from 09:00 to 16:00 as technicians carry out maintenance work on the distribution network. The utility said the shutdown is necessary to service key infrastructure and improve the reliability of power delivery in the area.

The outage forms part of Eskomโ€™s broader maintenance programme across Gauteng, where ageing infrastructure continues to place pressure on supply.

Residents Urged to Exercise Caution

The utility has advised residents to treat all electrical appliances as live during the outage period. Even when power appears to be off, unexpected restoration can occur without warning.

Eskom also cautioned that unforeseen circumstances could lead to changes in the maintenance schedule. In such cases, communities would be informed through official communication channels.

The power utility apologised for the inconvenience but stressed that routine maintenance remains critical to stabilising supply and preventing unplanned breakdowns in the future.

For many households and businesses in these communities, the seven hour blackout will require careful planning, especially for those working from home or running small enterprises that depend on a steady power supply.
