KEY POINTS

  • Egypt’s energy show drew 50,000-plus visitors and sealed major gas deals in Cairo.
  • Chevron signed a deal to advance the Aphrodite gas field and a 280-kilometer pipeline to Egypt.
  • Egypt and Cyprus signed a new framework for joint offshore gas exploration.

The ninth edition of the Egypt Energy Show wrapped up this week at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in Cairo, drawing more than 50,000 visitors and producing a string of deals that reinforced the country’s standing as a regional energy hub.

The three-day gathering, held under the theme “Transforming Energy Through Collaboration, Action, and Realism,” pulled in policymakers, investors and industry executives at a moment when global energy markets remain under severe pressure from the Iran-Israel conflict.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi opened the event alongside Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides and Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, a lineup that reflected the government’s investment in this year’s edition.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly later convened a high-level roundtable with global energy leaders, deepening Egypt’s pitch as a long-term investment destination.

Deals that moved the needle

The agreements signed were specific, not ceremonial. Chevron signed a Host Government Agreement to advance the Aphrodite gas field and a 280-kilometer subsea pipeline connecting it to Egypt. An Egypt-Cyprus framework on natural gas cooperation and joint offshore exploration was also confirmed, extending Cairo’s reach further into the Eastern Mediterranean.

GANOPE, bp and SLB locked in a partnership covering Red Sea hydrocarbon exploration and advanced seismic surveys. An EPROM-Monarch-GTS agreement was signed to assess and rehabilitate the Nordec mineral oil recycling plant. In a less conventional pairing, EGPC, Eni and a local health authority signed an agreement to upgrade New Heliopolis Hospital and expand healthcare capacity.

Scale, talent and what comes next

The numbers behind the show reflect its weight. More than 350 speakers addressed sessions across 13 country pavilions, with 500-plus exhibiting companies on the floor. An Innovation and AI Hub ran startup and industry pitch competitions, while the Young Professionals Programme directed attention toward the engineers and sustainability advocates the sector needs most.

The Energy Awards recognized excellence across Health and Safety, Process Safety Excellence, Digital Transformation and AI and Scaling Renewable Projects.

Egypt’s ambition here reaches beyond hosting a well-attended conference. Cairo is positioning itself as the place where Mediterranean energy deals get structured and where regional cooperation finds its framework. The 10th anniversary edition is already confirmed for March 29-31, 2027.
