Adeleye Falade has officially assumed office as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria LNG Limited, taking over leadership of the company at its corporate headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Sophia Horsfall, General Manager, External Relations and Sustainable Development, following the appointment of former NLNG boss Philip Mshelbila as Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.

Before his appointment, Falade served as Managing Director of Brunei LNG Sendirian Berhad, a role he assumed in April 2024, where he oversaw strategic operational delivery in one of the world’s established LNG-producing companies.

He brings nearly 30 years of experience in the global oil and gas industry, with leadership exposure across upstream and midstream operations in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Russia, and Africa. During his career within the Shell Group, he held senior technical and executive positions covering production optimisation, engineering, operational excellence, business improvement, and change management.

Falade also served as Country Chair for Shell Namibia in 2023, providing strategic leadership for the company’s operations and stakeholder engagement in the country.

Previous leadership roles within NLNG and Shell

Prior to his international assignments, Falade held key leadership roles within NLNG. Between May 2019 and September 2023, he served as General Manager, Production, overseeing plant performance, production reliability, and operational safety across NLNG’s facilities on Bonny Island.

Earlier, he worked as Operations Manager at NLNG from July 2015 to May 2018, where he supervised plant operations and operational efficiency. He also served as Regional Asset Management System Implementation Manager at Shell in The Hague, Netherlands, leading deployment of systems designed to improve operational reliability across global assets.

Falade holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from the University of Ibadan and a Master of Business Administration from Henley Business School, University of Reading.

He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria. He is also a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Falade assumes leadership at a critical period for NLNG as the Train 7 expansion project approaches completion. The expansion is expected to significantly increase production capacity and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global liquefied natural gas market.

The company recently secured long-term gas supply agreements with six third-party suppliers to boost feedgas availability for its Bonny Island operations. Falade also takes charge of a fully Nigerian management team, reflecting the company’s focus on indigenous leadership and local capacity development.
