What Nairobi residents need to know
In the capital, parts of Lang’ata will lose power from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The affected stretch covers Muiri Lane, Galleria Mall, the Kenya Wildlife Service headquarters, Lang’ata Barracks, Jambo Estate, Tamarind, the Carnivore area and surrounding residential estates.
Donholm and Savannah estates are on the same timetable. Total Energies Donholm, several banks and Equity Afya Hospital are also on the list. Residents in Donholm Phases 5 and 8 will be caught in the disruption as well.
Parts of Rongai in neighboring Kajiado County along Magadi Road will go without power from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The outage covers areas near major petrol stations, Kware Market and the Nairobi Women’s Hospital. Runda in Kiambu County is also marked for a blackout during the same hours.
Power cuts stretch across multiple regions
According to All Africa, Kisumu County, parts of Chulaimbo will be without power from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Chulaimbo and Masaba hospitals are among the key facilities on the outage list.
Nyeri County will also see disruptions. Areas around Kagumo High School and Kirichu Market will be dark from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the impact falling on schools, markets and residential communities nearby.
Along the coast, parts of Mombasa County including Kongowea, Bombolulu and Ziwa la Ng’ombe are scheduled for day-long outages. Tana River, Kwale and Taita Taveta counties also feature on the list. In Taita Taveta, entire towns including Taveta and Kirumbi are among the areas affected.
Kenya Power said the maintenance work is part of continuing efforts to upgrade its network and strengthen performance across the grid. The utility carries out such planned interventions periodically as part of managing national electricity infrastructure.
Customers are advised to plan accordingly ahead of Thursday’s planned outages. Kenya Power has reminded all residents and businesses to treat power lines as live throughout the interruption period, even if local supply appears to have gone off.
