The NNPC Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of NNPC Limited, has commissioned and handed over a fully installed 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Anambra State.
The intervention is aimed at improving access to advanced medical diagnostics and strengthening healthcare infrastructure across Nigeria’s South-East region, including Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi and neighbouring Delta State.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd.
Project Includes Modern Medical Support Infrastructure
Beyond the MRI machine itself, the project also covered the installation and testing of critical support systems needed for efficient operation of the facility.
These include RF shielding systems, chillers, backup UPS systems, electrical installations, imaging accessories, ventilation systems, CCTV cameras, oxygen monitoring systems, intercom facilities, and other patient-support technologies designed to ensure seamless healthcare delivery.
Before the intervention, many patients seeking MRI diagnostic services reportedly faced long waiting periods, high medical costs, and the stress of travelling far distances to access functioning imaging centres.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held at the Igwe Orizu ICT Centre at the permanent site of NAUTH in Nnewi on Friday, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Bashir Bayo Ojulari, represented by the Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, described the project as a strategic investment in healthcare delivery and national development.
According to him, access to quality healthcare is essential for human dignity, improved life expectancy and economic productivity.
