Morocco is set to host the third edition of its official oil and gas summit, where more than 350 executives from the industry, investors, and service providers will meet with the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) to explore the opportunities and challenges in the country’s hydrocarbon sector.
The summit, organized by IN-VR, will occur on October 24-26, 2023, at The Savoy Le Grand Hotel in Marrakech. The event will feature presentations, panel discussions, workshops, and networking sessions on topics such as the Nigeria-Morocco pipeline project, Morocco’s exploration and production potential, and the best practices and strategies to enter and succeed in the Moroccan market.
The summit will also showcase the latest developments and achievements of ONHYM, the state-owned agency responsible for promoting and managing the hydrocarbon resources in Morocco. ONHYM has been actively pursuing its onshore and offshore exploration program in partnership with several international oil companies.
Morocco has been attracting increasing attention from the global oil and gas community thanks to its stable political and economic environment, its strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, and its untapped hydrocarbon potential.
According to ONHYM, Morocco has an estimated 20 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) of conventional resources and 80 billion boe of unconventional resources. The country also has a vast offshore area of about 1 million square kilometers, with various geological settings and play types.
Morocco has seen several discoveries in recent years, such as the Tendrara gas field by Sound Energy, the Kenitra gas field by SDX Energy, and the Lixus gas field by Chariot Oil & Gas. These discoveries have demonstrated the commercial viability of Morocco’s hydrocarbon sector and opened up new opportunities for further exploration and development.
Morocco is also pursuing a regional integration project with Nigeria, involving the construction of a 5,660-kilometer gas pipeline that will connect the two countries and supply gas to several West African countries. The project aims to enhance energy security, foster economic development, and reduce regional greenhouse gas emissions.
The summit will provide a unique platform for participants to learn more about Morocco’s oil and gas sector, network with key decision-makers and stakeholders, and identify new business opportunities. The summit will also highlight Morocco’s commitment to developing its hydrocarbon sector sustainably and responsibly, aligning with its national energy strategy and environmental and social goals.
