The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has inspected the Katsina 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation as preparations intensify for the next major phase of equipment installation.
The inspection was conducted by the TCN Katsina Sub-Region in collaboration with Imcomtel Engineering Limited, with officials assessing the facility’s readiness for the installation and commissioning of new transmission equipment.
The TCN team was led by its Assistant General Manager, Transmission, Katsina Sub-Region, Usman Idris, while Imcomtel’s delegation was headed by Emmanuel Okafor.
A major focus of the inspection was the area designated for two 100MVA power transformers delivered to the substation on July 9, 2026.
Once installed and commissioned, the transformers are expected to increase the substation’s transmission capacity and improve the movement of electricity within Katsina State and other parts of the North-West.
The additional transformer capacity is expected to provide greater flexibility for transmitting electricity from the national grid and supporting electricity supply as demand continues to grow across the region.
The teams also inspected four newly delivered control rooms at the substation.
The facilities are expected to house critical protection, monitoring and control systems required for the safe and efficient operation of the upgraded transmission infrastructure.
The inspection allowed the TCN and Imcomtel teams to assess whether the control rooms and associated infrastructure are ready for the installation of the equipment required to operate the substation.
Civil works and infrastructure assessed
Beyond the transformers and control rooms, the inspection covered ongoing civil works, equipment locations and other supporting infrastructure at the substation.
The assessment was aimed at identifying outstanding technical requirements and ensuring that the site is adequately prepared before installation work begins.
TCN and Imcomtel also reviewed the remaining preparations needed to move the project into its next stage. The Katsina substation is an important part of the transmission network serving the region. Increasing its capacity could strengthen the grid’s ability to transmit electricity and provide additional support for power delivery across Katsina and neighbouring areas.
The installation and commissioning of the new transformers and associated control systems will be required before the expected capacity improvements can be fully realised.
The latest inspection therefore marks another step in preparations to bring the additional transmission infrastructure into operation.
