The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has achieved a momentous milestone by expanding its PowerApp user base from 250,000 in May 2022 to an astounding 3.1 million by the close of 2023. Samuel Dubik Mansubir Mahama, ECG’s Managing Director, revealed this groundbreaking achievement during a festive video message to mark the Christmas and New Year season.

Mr. Mahama expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the loyal customers whose unwavering support played a pivotal role in this remarkable feat. He lauded it as a “resounding remarkable feat,” highlighting ECG’s unwavering commitment to technological advancement and the convenience of its customers.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Ghana’s Minister for Energy, unveiled compelling insights into the transformative power of the ECG PowerApp. He underscored that ECG’s monthly revenue collections experienced an extraordinary surge, catapulting from GH¢480 million to an impressive GH¢1.1 billion during the final quarter of 2023. This remarkable upturn was directly attributed to the introduction and widespread adoption of the ECG PowerApp.

Dr. Prempeh emphasised the pivotal role played by the PowerApp in ECG’s quest to elevate online payment systems. The exponential growth in PowerApp users, from 250,000 in May 2022 to an astonishing 3,045,000 by the close of October 2023, underscores its surging popularity and effectiveness. Remarkably, monthly app usage maintained an impressive 94% rate, contributing substantially to a monthly revenue of GH¢745 million.

Mr. Samuel Mahama, ECG’s Managing Director, provided an assurance to customers, affirming that their interests would continue to be paramount in the company’s decision-making processes throughout 2024. This unwavering commitment underscores ECG’s steadfast dedication to enhancing customer satisfaction and continually refining its services and technological offerings.

The remarkable surge in PowerApp users, from 250,000 to an astounding 3.1 million within a year, marks a significant technological breakthrough in Ghana’s energy sector.
