Bourbon, a global leader in offshore logistics, has secured a fully integrated logistics contract to support a significant offshore exploration campaign in southern Namibia.
The project, led by Chevron Namibia Exploration Ltd., marks the operator’s first expedition into integrated logistics operations under Petroleum Exploration License 82 (PEL 82).
The contract includes freight forwarding, logistics base services, and marine operations. Drilling is expected to commence soon, with the deployment of three platform supply vessels — Bourbon Diamond, Ruby and Topaz.
Extensive logistics scope
According to Oil Review Africa, Bourbon will oversee all aspects of supply chain logistics, from international shipping and customs clearance of equipment to base operations in Walvis Bay.
Equipment will be shipped from global hubs including Houston, Singapore and Antwerp.
At the heart of the project is a 7-hectare logistics base in Walvis Bay, employing approximately 50 shore-based staff. Local Namibians comprise 96 percent of the workforce and will receive specialized training in materials handling as part of the initiative.
Bourbon’s proprietary Logistics Suite software will enable seamless planning, execution, and control of operations.
“This contract highlights Bourbon Logistics’ expertise in managing complex supply chains while maintaining strict safety and deadline standards,” said Nicolas Chateau, managing director of Bourbon Logistics.
Strategic growth in Africa
This project follows Bourbon Mobility’s April announcement of a partnership with Piriou to acquire six new crewboats for operations across West Africa.
These vessels are set for delivery in 2025, further bolstering the company’s presence in the region.
The campaign underscores Namibia’s emerging role in the global energy landscape as Chevron Namibia holds 80 percent working interest in PEL 82.
However, the initiative supports the development of the workforce and capacity building within Namibia as it is dominated by the local workforce.
