KEY POINTS

  • Ahonsi Unuigbe, CEO of Petralon Energy and NGX chairman, has been appointed chairman of Marconi.NG EPC, operator of West Africa’s largest fabrication yard.
  • Marconi, formerly Eni/Saipem EPC, plans to scale energy projects in oil, gas, and renewables while pushing local content and global standards.
  • Unuigbe’s appointment comes as Petralon restarts oil output in Rivers State and the Nigerian Exchange posts near-$100 billion market capitalization.

Nigerian energy executive Ahonsi Unuigbe has taken on a new leadership role as chairman of Marconi.NG EPC Limited, the company that operates West Africa’s biggest and most sophisticated fabrication yard.

Billionaires Africa reports that the appointment positions Unuigbe—already one of the country’s most influential dealmakers—at the center of Africa’s shifting energy landscape.

Unuigbe, who founded Lagos-based Petralon Energy and chairs the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), brings a portfolio of boardroom influence that spans oil production, capital markets, and cross-border finance.

He also recently joined the board of Africa Oil Corp, a Canadian-listed company, deepening his footprint across global energy circles.

Marconi Bets on Local Expertise to Scale Global Standards

Formerly part of Eni/Saipem’s engineering division, Marconi.NG EPC provides engineering, procurement, construction, and project management services for oil, gas, and renewable projects.

Its fabrication yard, the largest in the region, serves as a launchpad for multi-disciplinary energy work—supporting both legacy hydrocarbons and newer renewable ventures.

“This appointment is a natural extension of our work at Petralon Energy,” Unuigbe said in a statement. “Both companies share a commitment to local content and a drive to create lasting value. I look forward to partnering with Marconi’s shareholders and leadership team as we build on their decades of expertise to push the company into its next phase of growth.”

By marrying global standards with Nigerian know-how, Marconi says it aims to deliver complex projects across Africa—an ambition tied not just to profitability, but to reducing energy poverty and bolstering energy security for the continent’s fast-growing population.
