KEY POINTS

  • Dangote Refinery says it continues to produce up to 50 million litres of petrol daily
  • The company dismisses shutdown claims as misleading and market driven
  • Petrol is sold at a gantry price of N699 per litre, with strong stock levels

Reports that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is closing down for maintenance have been denied by the company, which calls the claims false and says they could hurt the petrol market.

The refinery said in a statement on Monday that production is still steady and won’t stop, which reassures marketers and consumers that they will continue to get Premium Motor Spirit, which is also known as petrol.

The company said that it can currently supply between 40 million and 50 million liters of gas per day through January and February, but only if there is enough demand.

The statement said that the refinery made 50 million liters of gasoline on January 4 and moved 48 million liters through its loading gantry. It also said that the current stock levels are enough to cover more than 20 days of national consumption, which calms fears about supply problems.

Maintenance does not mean shutdown

The refinery responded to reports that routine maintenance could lead to a full shutdown by saying that its facilities are built to keep running even when work is done on certain units.

It said that maintenance on units like the Crude Distillation Unit and the Residual Fluid Catalytic Cracking unit does not stop overall production because other important processing units keep running.

The Naphtha Hydrotreater, the Continuous Catalyst Regeneration Reformer, and the Hydrocracker are all running right now. They make gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.

Dangote Refinery said that it has always been able to meet the needs of the domestic market. It said that since December 16, 2025, it has loaded between 31 million and 48 million liters of petrol from its gantry every day, depending on demand.

The company said that the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority keeps depot loading records that can be used to check these numbers on their own.
