Dangote, Saudi Envoy Deepen Nigeria–Saudi Economic and Investment Ties

Nigeria’s leading industrialist Aliko Dangote has held high-level talks with the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, as both sides move to deepen economic and investment cooperation between Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The meeting, which took place in Abuja at the ambassador’s residence in the Diplomatic Quarter, focused on expanding bilateral collaboration across key sectors including energy, industry, infrastructure, and investment flows between both economies.

The engagement is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria–Saudi relations at a time when both countries are seeking to diversify their economic partnerships and attract more cross-border investment into strategic sectors.

According to the Saudi envoy, the discussions reflected a growing momentum in economic relations between both countries, with emphasis on long-term strategic cooperation.

Al-Balawi noted that Nigeria and Saudi Arabia share an evolving partnership built on mutual economic interests, adding that both sides are committed to translating diplomatic relations into tangible investment outcomes.

A key focus of the talks was Dangote’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia, which both parties described as an important step in identifying new areas of cooperation, particularly in industrial development and energy-related investments.

Saudi Arabia signals stronger investment interest in Nigeria

The ambassador also highlighted opportunities for Saudi investors to participate in projects linked to Dangote Group’s business portfolio, both in Nigeria and across Africa.

He said the Kingdom is increasingly interested in expanding its economic footprint in sectors where Nigeria has significant growth potential, particularly in energy and large-scale industrial projects.

The meeting also explored ways Saudi capital could be channelled into infrastructure development and manufacturing initiatives, aimed at boosting economic diversification in both regions.

Aliko Dangote described the engagement as productive, expressing optimism about stronger collaboration between Nigerian and Saudi businesses in the coming years.

He noted that recent interactions with Saudi stakeholders have opened new investment pathways, particularly in sectors that support industrial expansion and economic development.

Dangote also reiterated his commitment to building partnerships that create value for both countries, stressing the importance of leveraging shared opportunities in energy, infrastructure, and manufacturing.

The meeting concluded with a dinner hosted in Dangote’s honour, during which the Saudi ambassador presented a commemorative gift symbolising the strengthening ties between both nations.
