The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has announced a scheduled power interruption in Akwanga and surrounding communities in Nasarawa State as it carries out maintenance work on a major transformer at its transmission substation.
The exercise is expected to temporarily affect bulk electricity supply to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), potentially leaving electricity consumers in Akwanga, parts of Nasarawa and neighbouring areas without power during the maintenance period.
TCN said the maintenance involves the 40MVA, 132/33kV Transformer TR1 at its Akwanga 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
In a statement issued on Friday, the company said the exercise commenced at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, and is scheduled for completion by 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8.
The maintenance is part of efforts to strengthen the transmission network and ensure greater reliability in the supply of bulk electricity to communities connected to the substation.
AEDC Supply To Be Affected
According to TCN, AEDC will be unable to take bulk electricity supply from the affected transformer while the maintenance work is ongoing.
This is expected to disrupt electricity distribution to customers in Akwanga, Nasarawa and surrounding areas.
The Water Board and other neighbouring locations connected to the affected supply network are also expected to experience the interruption.
The temporary outage could affect homes, businesses, public institutions and other electricity consumers in the affected areas until the maintenance is completed and normal supply is restored.
The transmission company apologised to electricity consumers for the inconvenience that may result from the scheduled exercise.
TCN said the maintenance is necessary to improve the reliability of the transmission system and enhance bulk power supply to the affected areas.
The company also appealed to residents and electricity users in the affected communities to exercise patience and understanding while the work is being carried out.
The scheduled intervention is part of routine efforts to maintain critical transmission infrastructure, reduce the risk of equipment failure and improve the overall stability of electricity supply in the region.
