KEY POINTS
- ADNOC Gas signs five-year deal for 1.6 million tonnes of LNG.
- Global trading platform targets 47 million tonnes annually.
- Ruwais project will lift capacity to about 15 million tonnes.
ADNOC Gas has signed a five-year agreement to supply French energy major TotalEnergies with up to 1.6 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG), strengthening a longstanding partnership between the two companies.
The agreement, announced on November 4, 2026, reflects TotalEnergies’ confidence in ADNOC Gas’s supply reliability and delivery capabilities as global demand for LNG continues to grow.
Five-Year Supply Agreement
Under the deal, ADNOC Gas and its subsidiaries will deliver up to 1.6 million tonnes of LNG to TotalEnergies over five years.
ADNOC Gas CEO Fatema Al Nuaimi said the agreement demonstrated the competitiveness of the company’s LNG supply and its ability to secure long-term partnerships in an expanding global market.
Stéphane Michel, President of Gas, Renewables and Power at TotalEnergies, described the deal as another milestone in the companies’ relationship.
He said Abu Dhabi’s strategic location between Europe and Asia would strengthen TotalEnergies’ position as a major supplier in the global LNG market.
ADNOC Develops Global LNG Trading Platform
The agreement comes as ADNOC advances plans to establish a global LNG marketing and trading platform by combining the LNG marketing operations of ADNOC Gas and XRG with the trading capabilities of ADNOC Trading.
The platform is targeting 47 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG for sale beyond 2030, potentially positioning it among the world’s leading LNG marketing and trading businesses.
The initiative is also expected to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s role as an international energy trading hub.
For ADNOC Gas, the platform will provide access to a larger and more diversified LNG portfolio, allowing it to offer customers more flexible supply arrangements.
Ruwais LNG Project to Expand Capacity
ADNOC Gas currently supplies LNG from its 6-million-tonne-per-year Das Island facility, which serves long-term customers, including India’s GAIL.
Its production capacity is expected to increase significantly following its planned acquisition of ADNOC’s 60% stake in the Ruwais LNG project at cost when the facility begins operations.
The Ruwais plant will comprise two production trains, each with a capacity of 4.8 million tonnes annually. Its completion is expected to more than double ADNOC Gas’s operated LNG capacity to approximately 15 million tonnes per year.
Construction is supported by several contracts, including a $200 million marine dredging package awarded to NMDC.
Most of the project’s planned output has already been committed through long-term supply agreements with buyers such as Germany’s SEFE, Japan’s Osaka Gas and Mitsui.
