The Nigerian Economic Summit Group, NESG, has appointed Jim Swartz, Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria and Mid-Africa, as a Director on its Board.
The appointment, announced on Thursday, August 20, 2026, is part of the NESG’s efforts to strengthen its leadership with experienced professionals capable of contributing to policy discussions and initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable economic development and private sector-led growth in Nigeria.
Swartz is currently responsible for providing executive leadership to Chevron Nigeria Limited and its affiliates across the wider Mid-Africa region, including Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon, Benin, Togo and Ghana.
He assumed the position in 2024 and is based in Lagos. His responsibilities cover asset strategy and performance, operational execution, stakeholder engagement, government relations and operational excellence across several countries.
With more than 36 years of experience at Chevron, Swartz has held several technical, operational and senior executive positions in the United States and Africa.
His career has included assignments in Louisiana, Angola, California and Texas, giving him extensive experience in upstream operations, asset development, capital projects, commercial strategy and organisational leadership.
Extensive energy and project management background
Before becoming Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria and Mid-Africa, Swartz served as Vice President, Capital Projects, at Chevron’s Technical Center in Houston.
In that role, he was responsible for strengthening the technical and organisational capabilities required to support Chevron’s global portfolio of major projects.
He also previously served as Director of Chevron’s Deepwater Asset Class and as General Manager of Asset Development for the Gulf of America Business Unit.
His professional background, particularly in energy operations, major capital projects and asset development, is expected to add significant industry expertise to the NESG Board.
The NESG said Swartz’s experience will be particularly valuable to its policy dialogue on energy, investment, infrastructure, productivity, competitiveness and sustainable economic growth.
As a Board Director, he is expected to contribute perspectives from his experience managing complex energy operations and working with governments, investors, business partners and other stakeholders across Nigeria and the wider African region.
The organisation said his understanding of Nigeria’s energy sector and investment environment would further support its efforts to promote evidence-based policy advocacy and economic reforms.
