The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has approved the appointment of Sherifat Adegbenro as the acting Chief Executive Officer of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC). The approval was announced in a regulatory statement, with the commission noting that the decision aligns with governance requirements within Nigeria’s electricity sector.

According to the regulator, the appointment is intended to ensure leadership continuity at the distribution company pending the selection of a substantive chief executive officer.

Adegbenro’s emergence comes at a time of leadership transition within the company and broader reforms in Nigeria’s power sector. Regulators have been pushing for stronger corporate governance, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced service delivery across electricity distribution companies.

The interim appointment is therefore seen as part of efforts to maintain stability within EKEDC while long-term leadership arrangements are finalised.
