KEY POINTS
- Olakunle Williams built Tetracore Energy Group into a billion-dollar gas company within five years of founding.
- Tetracore supplies over 90MMscfd of gas to industrial users, supporting more than 300MW of embedded power generation across Nigeria.
- The company has expanded into Ghana with first-of-its-kind compressed natural gas virtual pipeline solutions, advancing West Africa’s regional energy integration.
In recent years, Olakunle Williams has steadily built a reputation as one of the most influential figures in Africa’s energy space. Widely recognized as an African Energy Icon and a visionary silent billionaire, his rise has been defined less by publicity and more by execution. As Founder and President of Tetracore Energy Group, he has established a business that has grown rapidly in value, reaching several hundreds of millions of dollars and, by some estimates, crossing into the billion-dollar range within five years.
Williams began his professional journey in law and tax advisory, where he developed a structured understanding of regulatory systems and fiscal frameworks. His transition into the energy sector was driven by a focus on gas commercialization and infrastructure, particularly within Nigeria’s domestic market. Through Tetracore, he has built one of the largest gas trading portfolios in Nigeria, supplying over 90MMscfd of gas to industrial users and supporting more than 300MW of embedded and industrial power generation, reinforcing the company’s role in reducing reliance on diesel across manufacturing sectors.
Building a fully integrated energy ecosystem
Tetracore’s structure reflects a deliberate approach to integration across midstream and downstream operations, spanning gas sourcing, trading, compression, distribution, logistics and power generation. The company has become one of the largest deployers of AutoGas infrastructure in Nigeria, with assets positioned along key industrial corridors. The Atakobo Auto CNG Facility delivers over 88,800 SCMD along the Western-Southern corridor, while the Ibese Auto CNG Facility, located within the Dangote industrial complex, powers large-scale logistics operations. The Ogere Auto CNG Facility along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway delivers 60,000 SCMD, with a new facility under development in Uwusan, Benin, adding a further 60,000 SCMD of planned capacity.
Beyond mobility infrastructure, Tetracore has established a 45MMscfd piped gas delivery city gate system in Benin City, supplying natural gas to one of the largest industrial clusters in the South-South region. The company has also developed an extensive piped and virtual natural gas distribution network spanning over 20 kilometers across key regions, including a 40MMscfd City Gate Facility powering the UTESI Pipeline Distribution Network, supplying over 14 manufacturing companies within the Rongtai Industrial Park. The 4.1km Ikoyi-Victoria Island-Lekki Virtual Pipeline serves high-demand commercial hubs including Viathan Group, while the company’s trading portfolio supplies major off-takers such as NDPHC, Egbin and NGML.
Regional expansion and industrial ambition
Tetracore’s operations extend into Ghana, where it has introduced the first-of-its-kind compressed natural gas solutions, including virtual pipeline systems that transport gas without fixed pipelines, enabling access for industries previously underserved by gas infrastructure. This forms part of a wider strategy to link energy markets across West Africa.
On the industrial front, the company is advancing planned Gas-to-Liquids and ammonia-urea facilities designed to convert natural gas into liquid fuels and fertilizer products, reducing import dependence while creating new revenue streams. Tetracore is also developing the Atakabo Independent Power Plant, a modular gas-fired project delivering electricity to industrial and commercial clusters through an 80km distribution network. Within the same energy park in Ogun State, a data center project is under development along the Atakabo-Ijebu Ode industrial corridor, positioning Tetracore at the intersection of energy and technology.
Recognition and leadership
Williams received the Energy Icon of the Year Award in 2025, alongside the Nigeria Domestic Gas Ambassador Award and Innovative Gas Company of the Year honor. He was also conferred with a Doctor of Business Administration in recognition of his professional achievements. He serves as Deputy Chairman of the Association of Local Gas Distribution, contributing to policy discussions and industry coordination within Nigeria’s gas sector.
Within five years, Williams has built a company with multiple subsidiaries, cross-border operations and a diversified portfolio spanning gas, power and industrial production. Through Tetracore Energy Group, he continues to build a network of assets that support industrial growth, energy accessibility and regional integration, reinforcing his standing as one of the key figures shaping the future of energy in West Africa.
