KEY POINTS

  • Shell announced a price cut in diesel and kerosene but a slight increase in gasoline prices effective May 12.
  • Diesel will drop by P9.57 per liter and kerosene by P13.30 per liter, while gasoline rises by P0.47 per liter.
  • The adjustment reflects ongoing volatility in global oil markets, which continues to drive frequent fuel price changes.

Shell has announced a fresh adjustment in fuel pump prices in the Philippines, reducing the cost of diesel and kerosene while slightly increasing gasoline prices.

The company said diesel prices will be cut by P9.57 per liter, while kerosene will go down by P13.30 per liter starting Tuesday, May 12. However, gasoline will increase by P0.47 per liter.

The latest adjustment comes just days after fuel prices moved in the opposite direction, with diesel and gasoline both recording increases last week, while kerosene prices dropped.

The repeated changes in pump prices highlight ongoing volatility in global oil markets, which continues to influence domestic fuel pricing across countries.

Last week, diesel prices rose by between P2.60 and P2.66 per liter, gasoline increased by P2.20 to P2.21 per liter, while kerosene dropped by P3.53 per liter.

Fuel retailers typically adjust prices weekly based on movements in international crude oil benchmarks and supply conditions.

Consumers Face Mixed Relief And Pressure

While the drop in diesel and kerosene prices may offer some relief for transport operators and households, the slight increase in gasoline could add pressure for private vehicle users.

Fuel price fluctuations remain a key concern for consumers, especially as transport and logistics costs continue to affect the prices of goods and services.
