KEY POINTS

  • TCN restored the Ikeja-West/Omotosho 330kV line after an outage lasting about nine and a half hours.
  • Cut conductors at the Ikeja-West end caused the disruption.
  • Bulk power supply through the line has resumed to EKEDC and Ikeja Electric.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored the Ikeja-West/Omotosho 330-kilovolt transmission line after an outage disrupted bulk electricity supply to parts of Lagos.

The line tripped at 12:37 a.m. on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, and was returned to service at 10:14 a.m., following repair work by TCN engineers.

The outage affected bulk power supply to Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electric, which distribute electricity to customers across parts of Lagos.

TCN confirmed that power transmission through the affected line had been restored to both distribution companies.

Damaged conductors caused the disruption

According to TCN, the transmission line went out of service after the Y-phase downdropper twin conductors were cut at the Ikeja-West end.

The damage disrupted the movement of bulk electricity through the line, prompting the company to deploy engineers to carry out repairs and restore transmission.

TCN said its technical team began work immediately after the incident was reported, with the aim of returning the line to service as quickly as possible.

The company did not disclose further details about how the conductors were cut or whether anyone was suspected of causing the damage.

Power supply restored to two distribution companies

Following the restoration, TCN confirmed that bulk electricity supply through the transmission line had resumed to EKEDC and Ikeja Electric.

The company thanked both distribution companies and their customers for their patience and understanding during the disruption.

TCN also apologised to customers affected by the outage, acknowledging the inconvenience caused by the interruption to electricity supply.

The company reiterated its commitment to ensuring efficient transmission of bulk electricity across Nigeria.

Although the transmission line has been restored, the availability of electricity to individual customers will also depend on the distribution networks and the amount of power supplied to the two electricity distributors.
