Allseas, a leading offshore contractor, has delivered a remarkable performance in the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project, a major liquefied natural gas (LNG) development off the coast of Mauritania and Senegal.
The company installed the first structure on the project site, only two months after taking over the contract from another firm that failed to execute it. The structure, a 1,000-tonne J-mode frame, was designed and built by Allseas in record time and deployed by its flagship vessel, the Pioneering Spirit.
A Promising Step for Clean Energy
The GTA project is a joint venture between BP, Kosmos Energy, Petrosen, and SMHPM, and aims to produce LNG from a deep-water gas field. LNG is a cleaner and more efficient source of energy than coal or oil and can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.
According to a report by Energy Voice, the project is expected to start producing LNG in 2024 and will supply both domestic and international markets. The project will also create jobs and revenue for the local communities and governments.
A Showcase of Allseas’ Capabilities
Allseas has demonstrated its expertise and innovation in the GTA project, by using its in-house capabilities to overcome technical and logistical challenges. The company’s fabrication team modified the pipelines and built the J-mode frame in just two months, while its pipeline production team completed the welding and qualification programs at a fast pace.
The company also used its vessels, the Oceanic and the Pioneering Spirit, to perform the installation work in 2,800 meters of water, a significant achievement for the field of offshore engineering.
Allseas will continue to work on the GTA project, completing the pipelay scope that includes four 10-inch corrosion-resistant alloys (CRA) infield lines and two 16-inch export gas lines. The Oceanic will provide support for the operations.
