Springfield Group has managed to establish a large order to carry out an appraisal of Afina-1x offshore Ghana. There is also utilizing Deepsea Bollsta, a sophisticated drilling vessel belonging to Northern Ocean Ltd. Springfield must conduct this test, which could indicate even larger long-term plans for the region’s oil production.
Exploration in the Tano-Western basin
The drilling test focuses on the West Cape Three Points Block 2 (WCTP2) in the Tano-Western basin,. It covers approximately 673 km.
According to UpstreamOnline, the previous delineation of Springfield held over 1.5 billion barrels of oil and over 0.7 trillion cubic feet of gas. These discoveries have placed the company, Springfield, in the middle of the region’s energy future.
This well test is now anticipated to take 30 to 35 days to complete. The contract is to commence in the first quarter of 2024. This drilling operation forms part of an enduring relationship between Springfield and Northern Ocean Ltd for a possible main field development program in Ghana.
Partnerships for Ghana’s energy future
Springfield which operates WCTP2 and has a majority stake in the project has formed a joint venture with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and its exploration arm; GNPC Explorco.
Their goal is to support Ghana’s growth in oil production and also make a strong strike on Ghana’s energy market.
The current test may create the basis for further field development meaning that more jobs would be created and more energy generated for Ghana.
While the clock for the onset of operations is counting down, the energy industry awaits what could be a defining project for West Africa today.
