- TotalEnergies plans to install the FSO Adiana offshore Nigeria by end-2027 to replace the ageing FSO Unity and support continued oil production.
- The vessel is being refurbished in China and will strengthen offshore storage capacity, with a 2.2 million-barrel replacement system planned.
- The project reinforces TotalEnergies’ long-term partnership with NNPC Ltd and aims to extend the lifespan of Nigeria’s offshore oil infrastructure.
TotalEnergies is preparing to deploy a new floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel, Adiana, offshore Nigeria by the end of 2027, in a move aimed at sustaining long-term oil production and replacing ageing infrastructure critical to offshore operations.
The development was disclosed by Matthieu Bouyer, Managing Director of TotalEnergies EP Nigeria, who explained that the vessel is currently undergoing refurbishment at the Weihai shipyard in China.
Once completed, the FSO Adiana will replace the existing FSO Unity, which has a storage capacity of 2.2 million barrels of crude oil and has served as a key storage and offloading hub for offshore production.
According to Bouyer, the project is designed not only to maintain production continuity but also to extend the lifespan of offshore assets that underpin Nigeria’s deepwater oil output.
He added that the installation of the new unit represents a continuation of the long-standing partnership between TotalEnergies and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), particularly in offshore field development and production infrastructure management.
After completion of refurbishment works, the FSO Adiana is expected to sail from China and be installed at its offshore Nigeria anchorage, marking a major infrastructure upgrade in the country’s upstream oil sector as operators seek to balance ageing assets with sustained production targets.
